Well, this is exciting.
On April 10th I’ll be running my first writer’s workshop as part of #Litfest2444. As per the copy on the homepage, LitFest 2444 is a festival like no other. A festival just for teens that encourages and inspires young minds to break the mould of creativity and explore conventional and revolutionary ways to tell their story. Over two days and four venues, you’ll be surrounded by storytelling trailblazers, published authors and other creative teens. Festival presenters will share their favourite way to tell stories through sound and poetry to comics and fantasy writing. An eclectic mix of presenters will explore both digital and traditional mediums. They’ll also unravel the skills needed to take your creativity and passion to the next level and make it your career.
I’ll be one of the folks encouraging young minds to break the mould of creativity and doubtless getting a little inspiration back from hanging out with some talented aspiring writers. The particular workshop I’m teaching is called Worldbuilding – How to create believable fantasy worlds. Sounds pretty cool, right? Basically, I’m going to run through the challenges I faced when writing the Winter novels, talk about my personal favourites in the fantasy genre (His Dark Materials and Harry Potter will get a big shout out) and answer any questions about writing the students may have. The workshop is open to any teenager in the Mid North coast, so if you are a teenager who loves stories, are a parent of a story-mad teenager or a teacher of story-mad teenagers, please consider letting them know about it. It should be a lot of fun.
